Puff The Magic Dragon
But time always brings changes;
there's another little boy]
They romp the land and sail the
seas in search of golden toys!
They capture all the pirates, and
rescue maidens fair,
And if you find misty Honalee,
you'll see them playing there.
Oh, Puff the Magic Dragon still
lives by the sea
And frolics in the autumn mist in
a land called Honalee
Puff the Magic Dragon still lives by
the sea
And frolics in the autumn mist in
a land called Honalee.
The familiar song "Puff The Magic Dragon" takes us through to the end. Although Schert does not do any dragon-y moves, the song casts a spell. As he backs away from us, he takes on the aura of a magical figure.
Flying the AC-47 was difficult and trying. The high loss rate and the deaths of so many friends in combat made it worse. These were the times that hurt the most. The 4th Air Commando Squadron has long since disappeared, and the gunship program has advanced through C-119 and to C-130 units. Commando units have become Special Operations units. But in the back of the bar, there is still a table-or two-of intrepid aviators who can still sing the squadron song, "Puff The Magic Dragon"-usually very loudly and off-key-and can still remember their days as Commandos and flying the AC47 with all its challenges. The only rewards for those who took part are the lasting memories of conquering the Goon, of a "Thanks, Spooky; you've got them on the run," of departed friends and of membership in that very proud organization of aviators who can say, "Sure, I flew Puff The Magic Dragon. Not many of us left."

Cartoon Network’s Ben 10
For those readers who have been on another planet, or don’t come into contact with pre-tween boys, Ben 10 is Cartoon Network’s widely successful animated action-adventure series featuring Ben Tennyson, a 10-year-old boy with the ability to morph into different aliens using a strange alien device called the Omnitrix. A global phenomenon, Ben 10 is now being aired in more than 160 countries around the world; in Asia Pacific, the show is seen in 118 million households in 23 countries.
In Australia, after premiering on 16 April, 2007, BEN 10 went on to be Cartoon Network’s strongest launch for 2007, achieving the channel’s highest rating for 2007 and 2008. The premiere of Ben 10: Secret of the Omnitrix premiere on 1 September, 2007 proved Cartoon Network’s most watched show on record (kids 5-12) in Australia. In the Philippines, cumulative reach of Ben 10 was over 2.7 million total individuals 2+ since launch on 1 October, 2006 (Cartoon Network has 1,236,000 households in the Philippines - source: CN distribution report 2008 Q2).
Cartoon Network works closely with global toy partner Bandai for Ben 10 and, following successful toy launches in United States, United Kingdom and Australia, India and Southeast Asia, the character is poised to become the hottest brand for boys in the Asia Pacific region. Cartoon Network Enterprises has an overall licensing program focusing on toys and games, apparel, stationery, bags, gifts and novelties, footwear, publishing and other products.
Ben 10: Race Against Time is the first live-action made-for-TV CGI movie based on Cartoon Network’s hit animated action-adventure series BEN 10. It was the most watched telecast in the history of Cartoon Network in the US, as well as the number 1 show of the day on all television among boys,.
The movie had its television premiere on Cartoon Network’s Australia/New Zealand feed on 20 September, and on the Southeast Asia and Philippines feeds on 26 September. The movie is anticipated to set similar records (as in the US) in these markets, where BEN 10 is among Cartoon Network’s highest rating shows. The television premiere of Ben 10: Race Against Time in Malaysia also marks the launch of Cartoon Network’s first Bahasa Malay block, allowing the audience to watch Cartoon Network shows in Bahasa, in addition to English and Mandarin languages, via their Astro service.
Before the movie airs on the channel, Cartoon Network rolled out the BEN 10-green carpet with special by-invitation-only Ben 10: Race Against Time cinema premieres in Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne in Australia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Manila in the Philippines. TV legend Lee Majors, who plays the key role of Grandpa Max in the movie, flew to these countries to help paint the town green. Best known worldwide for his starring roles in The Six Million Dollar Man and The Fall Guy, in Ben 10: Race Against Time, Lee as Grandpa Max uses his past experiences with the paranormal to guide and protect his grandchildren, Ben and Gwen, through their many adventures in fighting evil.
Cartoon Network will soon launch the next BEN 10 series, Alien Force, in Asia Pacific.
Ben 10: Alien Force begins the next chapter in the continuing BEN 10 saga five years later when 15-year-old Ben Tennyson chooses to once again put on the OMNITRIX and discovers that it has reconfigured his DNA and can now transform him into 10 brand new aliens. Joined by his super-powered cousin Gwen Tennyson and his equally powerful former enemy Kevin Levin, Ben is on a mission to find his missing Grandpa Max. In order to save his Grandpa, Ben must defeat the evil DNALIENS, a powerful alien race intent on destroying the galaxy, starting with planet Earth.
In the US, the show set all-new records as the most-watched original series premiere (18 April, 2008) in Cartoon Network history among kids 6-11, boys 6-11, boys 2-11 and households, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. The one-hour premiere also scored as the number 1 telecast of the day on all television - both cable and broadcast - with kids 9-14, boys 6-11 and boys 2-11. The premiere of Ben 10: Alien Force out-performed the original Ben 10 series premiere (13 Jan, 2006) across all kids and boys demos, ranging from 40 percent to 70 percent.
Cartoon Network has also launched the official Ben 10 website (www.ben10.net) for Asia Pacific fans. Features include the latest Ben 10 games; videos on demand (including behind-the-scenes from Ben 10: Race Against Time) in the Screening Room; Grandpa’s Workshop, where users can create and share their own content using Ben 10 video clips, audio, flash animation, static art and text; and Ben 10 emoticons, wallpapers, desktop icons and even coloring sheets that can be downloaded. Ben 10 fans can enjoy all the interactive features by Going Hero and becoming a registered user. Aside from being an engaging online destination, www.ben10.net is as safe as Cartoon Network’s websites, requiring parental consent for registration and employing 24-hour monitoring of kids’ online behavior and interaction.
Cartoon Network's Star Wars
In addition to the "Clone Wars" announcement, Cartoon Network also presented a new kids' show called "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack," about a boy who yearns for adventure on the high seas and announced that beginning in June, Sunday nights will be home to a movie franchise that will feature both animated ("The Ant Bully," "Monster House") and live-action ("Kicking and Screaming," "Cheaper by the Dozen") feature films.
When George Lucas released the first three episodes of his new Star Wars spinoff cartoon The Clone Wars into theaters as a feature length movie, I viewed it as a cynical marketing ploy to wring out a few more bucks from fans before they got to see the series for free on Cartoon Network. The actual product didn’t thrill me much, either. I didn’t particularly like the storyline and found things like the Roman Polanski-ish hutt, Anakin Skywalker’s tube-top wearing jedi pupil and the overly cute antics of the baby hutt all fighting it out to see which could annoy me more.
Cartoon Network announced today that it has picked-up a second season of the hit CG-animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," from creator George Lucas and Lucasfilm Animation. Slated to premiere in the fall of 2009, the second season will continue to take audiences on new and exciting adventures, combining the legendary storytelling of Lucasfilm with innovative animation. The season one finale of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" airs on Cartoon Network Friday, March 20 at 9 pm ET/PT.
I'm sure Lucasarts would have made DVDs if it hadn't made it on Cartoon Network. The fact that CN is picking it up for another season is new news. I like the show, but I'm not really looking at it as part of the movies at all, no matter how much Lucas is attached. It's kind of like Terminator 3 and Salvation, no matter how good they are they're not part of the true storyline.
Naruto in Cartoon Network
"Naruto has reached a level of underground fandom comparable to the Dragonball phenomenon in both the U.S. and abroad. We are excited and honored to present Toonami fans with the compelling characters, story arcs and incredible action that have made Naruto an international sensation," said Bob Higgins, senior vice president of programming for Cartoon Network.
Naruto is an adaptation of the popular manga series Naruto created by Masahi Kishimoto. Cartoon Network has acquired 52 episodes of the animé series that will air during Toonami, Cartoon Network's Saturday prime time action block. Since its modest beginnings on the Cartoon Network, Naruto has taken the U.S by storm with accessories galore, among many other keepsakes and knick-knacks sold nation-wide. However, that isn't the main reason for creator Masashi's Kishimoto anime success.
About Cartoon Network
Cartoon Network (CartoonNetwork.com), currently seen in 88.1 million U.S. homes and 160 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.'s ad-supported cable service offering the best in original, acquired and classic animated entertainment for kids and families. Overnight from 11 p.m.-6 a.m. (ET, PT), Cartoon Network shares its channel space with Adult Swim, a late-night destination showcasing original and acquired animation for young adults 18-34.
Cartoon Network, please do not air the Naruto-filler-sagas--just skip straight to Naruto Shippuuden (the second part of the Naruto story). The 85-episodes of crappy Naruto filler (episodes 136 - 220) that follow the Sasuke-retrieval arc (current arc), are poorly written, poorly animated, and do not follow the spirit of Naruto at all. Everyone who watched them in Japanese agrees--they're not worth dubbing. Do not torture your English audience by forcing them to watch 1.6 straight-years of crappy filler.

Glenn Quinn moved along with his mother
Glenn Martin Christopher Francis Quinn ( Glenn Quinn )was an Irish actor in television and film. As well as having a role as a major character in the television series Angel, he also had a recurring role as Mark Healy in the comedy Roseanne and the short-lived UK series Covington Cross.Born in Dublin Ireland on May 28th 1970, Glenn Quinn moved along with his mother and two sisters to Long Beach California in 1988. He was certainly proud of his Irish heritage – he had ‘Erin Go Bragh (Ireland Forever) tattooed on his right shoulder and a Harp on his left. Following a series of odd jobs Glen decided to try his hand at acting and met with success quite promptly. His first role was playing a pool shark in the Richard Marx video ‘Satisfied’. His first film was ‘Shout’ (1991) with John Travolta -- in which Glenn had the honor of giving teen-ingénue Gwyneth Paltrow her first on-screen kiss!
Many horror/sci-fi fans are familiar with Glenn Quinn for his showy role as Allen Francis Doyle (half human and half demon) who is sent to guide Angel (David Boreanaz) to his destiny in the WB series ‘Angel’ (1999). Producers killed him off after just a few episodes saying it was “part of the original plan”. However, there were rumors that Quinn lost the role as a result of his increasing problems with drugs and alcohol. Those problems would eventually claim his life.
On December 6th he was given a traditional Irish wake at The Luyben Mortuary in Lakewood, CA. Services were held at Saint Cornelius Church in Long Beach. Among those in attendance were ‘Roseanne’ cast mates Sara Gilbert and Johnny Galecki. Michael Fishman (DJ on ‘Roseanne’) collected donations to help cover funeral costs. Glenn Quinn was buried at Forest Lawn in Orange County. The actor is survived by his parents (Bernadette and Murty) and his sisters (Sonya and Louisa).
Malibu's Johnny Strange

Three weeks ago, Malibu's Johnny Strange delivered a message from the top of Mt. Everest, stating, "Stop Genocide". But he carries another message for fellow teenagers: Pursue your dreams and meet challenges head-on. Johnny Strange, 17, after scaling the world's tallest peak at 29,035 feet, flew from the Himalayas to Australia and on Monday (Tuesday in Australia) strolled to the top of 7,310-foot Mt. Kosciuszko to become the youngest person in the world to have climbed the highest peak on seven continents, known collectively as the Seven Summits.
Two out of three 17-year-olds is not bad for Mt. Everest. In fact, it's an outstanding ratio. Earlier this week, Johnny Collinson of Snowbird, Utah, made it to the top of the world's tallest peak, becoming the first Westerner to do so. A day later, Johnny Strange of Malibu reached the summit. Their view from 29,035 feet: absolutely stunning. Johnny Strange.

Sculpture? It’s a Klapper! Michael Milken
When Daniel Pearl visited Mumbai, India for the first time, he was elated to discover a local jazz club, where he was invited to share his musical talent by playing alongside the regulars. The late journalist's father, Judea Pearl, shared this anecdote at a sumptuous Indian feast of sag paneer and curry at the home of Dr. B.K. and Mrs. Veena Mod in Beverly Hills, where Judea and his wife, Ruth Pearl, were honored. Indian dignitaries, the Hon. Vilasrao Deshmukh, chief minister of Maharashtra, and the Hon. Ashok Chavan, cabinet minister of industries and culture paid tribute to the Pearls' work through the Daniel Pearl Foundation, which promotes cross-cultural understanding through journalism and music-Daniel Pearl's favorite pursuits.

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Los Angeles) was honored with the California Distinguished Advocacy Award for his public policy work on behalf of cancer prevention. Allan and Dorothy Jonas and Helene Brown hosted the American Cancer Society benefit Aug. 8 at the Regency Club. Waxman is known, among other things, for sponsoring a controversial bill banning federal funding for the Red Line subway in response to a methane gas explosion in the Fairfax district in 1985. When underground tunneling was deemed safe again, he introduced a bill lifting the ban, which passed unanimously in September 2006. He is also widely recognized for his hard-hitting approach to fighting the tobacco industry.

After my fellow Calendar Girl Dikla Kadosh wrote a critical review of a June 28 Sababa party in Hollywood, the disgruntled organizer bombarded her with angry e-mails disputing her report that attendance was low. An acquaintance of ours attended the most recent Sababa bash on Aug. 9 and informed us that once again the party suffered from slim attendance. Coincidence, or catastrophe?

Bel Air met the ballet, Chanel and Wolfgang Puck on July 24 when Robin and Elliott Broidy hosted 360 guests at an American Ballet Theatre (ABT) fundraiser dinner. Co-chaired by Avery and Andy Barth, Lori and Michael Milken and Laura and Jamie Rosenwald, the event raised eyebrows and $325 grand. Four-thousand red and white roses bloomed toward the stars while lilies and gardenias floated in the pool. ABT's principal dancers performed scenes from "Sleeping Beauty," "Gopak" and "Don Quixote" atop a stage covered in cascading ivy and flanked by phalaenopsis orchids. Wolfgang Puck Catering nourished guests Sheriff Lee Baca, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Florence and Harry Sloan and designer Monique Lhuillier with sweet corn risotto and miso-glazed salmon, while ladies in designer drapery were careful not to spill.

Jean + Jean + Gia Carangi = ?

Presentation One, an apparent failure, theorised that someone having the first name Gina, Geena, Jean, Jenna, etc. might suffer the same fate in the year 2000 as Jean Harlow, Jean Seberg, Gia Carangi, or Dorothy Jean Dandridge. Thankfully, this did not occur. Note, however, that I say this was an apparent failure because there is an adjacent potential, admittedly small, for this prediction to still be fulfilled during 2001. For this reason this section will be maintained throughout 2001. It is currently a failed and unchanged archive.
Presentation Two, the second half of this page, predicting female celebrities of any name succumbing to one of the four scenarios mentioned was unfortunately successful (and continues to be). Israeli pop singer Ofra Haza died of AIDS like supermodel Gia and television star Paula Yates died in a fashion similar to Jean Seberg and Dorothy Jean Dandridge. In addition, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge star, Halle Berry, suffered an injury during an auto accident and pop diva Whitney Houston came very close to ending up identically like Dorothy Dandridge. It appears she has kicked the cocaine habit, fortunately for her. Nevertheless, an adjacent potential in the second section remains active in 2001, serving as a warning. Currently, against all odds, it appears supermodel Niki Taylor has fallen victim to the Jean Harlow scenario. gia carangi.

Spinal Tap Rockers Announce “Unwigged & Unplugged” Tour, New Album

A quarter-century after the theatrical release of the ultimate rock satire This Is Spinal Tap, the tour will have the trio performing for the first time as themselves, combining music from both that film and the affectionate 2003 folk-music comedy A Mighty Wind.
“We’re doing the trio tour because it’s so easy,” McKean says from stage. “We just have these wooden instruments and we don’t have to wear these things on our heads, unless we’re playing a temple —″
Adds Shearer, “Or a mosque.”
McKean and Guest first started writing songs together in 1967, and the three of them began playing as a unit in 1978. They do plan on some special live appearances later this year as Spinal Tap in full, wigged regalia, the first since their epic appearance at 2007’s Live Earth in London.
